THE RETREAT WEEK SUMMARY:
Each morning, we meet for a buffet breakfast between 08:00 – 08:30, and our morning session begins at 09:30, running to 12:30, with a coffee break in between. These sessions are detailed below. The afternoons are yours to write, edit, walk the beach, swim, hike from
one village to another, or take a nap—whatever you like. We meet for dinner in the early evening by 8:00 p.m. and then spend the evening chatting about writing. We’ll have readings, critiques, and motivational stories of successes and how to manage that in your own career.
The morning session will cover the novel idea and execution. How to set the hook early and end chapters with hooks. We break for lunch and one-on-one sessions to discuss your career, direction, and what you want to do with your writing. Dwayne will do a one-hour masterclass on police procedures and weapons for interested writers.
The act of writing will be discussed. What you should put on paper, and what to leave out. What makes a book stand out and become a bestseller will be addressed. Writing consistently is key—Dwayne will discuss finding your own rhythm and discipline. Are you outlining your book or writing the story as it comes to you? Dwayne and Jonas will debate plotting vs. pantsing to understand
which will work best for you. We break for the afternoon to enjoy the Greek weather, swim in the sea, or write.
The discipline of creating the novel, how much emotion must be on the page, and how to place the tension in the right spots to keep readers madly turning the pages.
A calm and easy approach to self-editing will be covered. Small tricks to fix writer habits and a list of dos and don’ts that are easy to follow and will keep your manuscript clean.
Promotion and how to do that outside social media. Once you’ve written your break-out novel and you’re looking for sales, we’ll supply you with tricks and tips that’ll help with promotion. These are the exact things Jonas Saul did to outrank Stephen King on Amazon, become a bestseller, and get noticed by Hollywood.
